Help With Insurance Payments

Struggling to Pay for Your Insurance

If money is tight and your insurance is one of the things you are worried about, talk to us. There is usually more that can be done than people expect — and far more if you come to us before a payment is missed rather than after.

Come to us early

You do not have to be in arrears to ask for help, and you do not have to explain your circumstances in any detail before we will look at your cover.

Engaging with us early — even if you have not yet missed a payment — gives us the most room to help. Once a policy has lapsed or been cancelled for non-payment, the options narrow sharply: cover may have to be rewritten rather than adjusted, a lapse can affect what you are quoted in future, and any claim arising in the gap is yours to carry.

Call us on 0191 378 7100 or email enquiries@parkcommercial.co.uk. The conversation is confidential, and it does not commit you to anything.

What we can look at on your cover

Our aim is to keep you insured at a level that is appropriate for your business and that you can afford. A number of options could be available, depending on what you have and what you need. They include, but are not limited to:

  • Reviewing your demands and needs. What was right for the business two years ago may not be what it needs now, and a policy that has been renewed on autopilot often carries cover for things that have changed or gone.
  • Adjusting the cover, short term or long term. Sums insured, limits, excesses and optional sections can all be looked at. A higher excess or a tighter limit reduces the premium — and we will tell you plainly what you are giving up before you decide.
  • Looking at other suitable products on the market. We have access to many leading insurers, and we will tell you if the right answer for you is a different insurer rather than a smaller version of the same policy.

What we will not do is quietly strip out cover to make a number look better. If the only way to reach a premium you can afford leaves the business meaningfully exposed, we will say so.

If adjusting the cover is not the answer

If changes to your insurance do not suit you or do not help your situation, and you pay for your insurance in instalments, contact your insurer or finance provider directly — further support may be available from them that is not ours to give. Depending on the provider and your circumstances, that could include, but is not limited to:

  • Tailored support appropriate to your individual circumstances
  • A temporary pause on payments
  • Temporarily reduced payments
  • Suspending, reducing, waiving or cancelling further interest or charges
  • Amending your repayment date, or spreading payments differently
  • Help with accessing money guidance, or free debt advice

Tell us if you are going to do this and we will help you put the case, and make sure that whatever is agreed does not leave a gap in your cover. We can tell you who the provider is and how to reach them if you are not sure.

Do not leave yourself uninsured

Cancelling cover to save money is the decision we would most want you to talk to us about first, because some of it is not optional.

Employers’ liability insurance is a legal requirement for almost every business with employees, and so is third-party motor insurance for any vehicle used on a road. Going without either is an offence as well as a risk, and the penalties are not small. Other cover is not compulsory in law but may be required by a contract, a lease, a lender or a licence — and a breach there can cost you the contract rather than just the cover.

There is almost always a way to reduce what you are paying without crossing those lines. Let us find it with you.

Free and impartial help with money

Some of what you may need is beyond insurance, and there is good free help available.

MoneyHelper offers free and impartial money guidance, backed by the UK government, including a debt advice locator that will point you to a free adviser near you.

Help for Households sets out the government support currently available with the cost of living.

Free debt advice is also available from Citizens Advice and from National Debtline. You never have to pay for debt advice.

If you are a business owner and the pressure is on the business rather than the household, say so when you call us — the people worth speaking to are different, and we may be able to point you at them.

If you are not happy with how we handle it

If you feel we have not given you the help you asked for, or not given it quickly enough, tell us. Our complaints procedure applies here in the same way as to any other part of our service, and we would rather hear about it early.
